Matty Bombs took on the world’s top-ranked long drivers at World Long Drive Florida 2026, held at the National Polo Center in Wellington, Florida, on 15 and 16 May. A full-time tradie who built his long drive career between job sites, gym sessions and range buckets, Matty went into the event ranked 21st in the World Long Drive Elite Division.
The event was the first tour stop of the 2026 World Long Drive (WLD) season, with Open, Women’s and Rise divisions competing for ranking points on the road to the World Championship in Reno. The Open Division started with two groups of 16, with the top eight from each moving on to the Final 16 and then a head-to-head final eight. Colton Casto beat 2024 World Champion Sean Johnson in the final.
Matty was drawn in Round 1, Group A, a 16-player round robin where the top eight moved on to the Final 16. He opened with a win in his first set and sat 4th in the group after four of the five rounds. A tough final set dropped him to 9th on 475 points, just 25 points behind Matthew Kindou in 8th, missing the Final 16 by a single place. His longest drive of the day went 394 yards.
Golf Channel broadcast the Open Division final eight on 30 June 2026, and the full replay is on World Long Drive’s YouTube channel. Matty’s group is in the Friday livestream, also on the channel.
Florida was the start of Matty’s 2026 season on the world stage, which ended with a 7th place finish in the Open Division final at the 2026 World Long Drive Championship in Reno.
