Matty Bombs represented Australia at the World Long Drive Championship in Reno, Nevada, from 15 to 17 October 2026, finishing 7th in the Open Division final. Held at Wildcreek Golf Course, the 2026 World Long Drive (WLD) Championship brought the world’s longest hitters together for the biggest event on the long drive calendar.
Eighty players started in the Open Division, hitting in groups of 16, with the top six from each group moving on. Matty’s last swing of day two went 408 yards and put him into the final eight against the best long drivers in the world.
In Saturday’s final, Matty’s best drive went 400 yards, placing him 7th of the eight finalists.
Getting to Reno took more than training. Matty is a full-time tradie who built his long drive career between job sites, gym sessions and range buckets. This trip took in events in Mexico and Reno, with supporters helping to cover flights, accommodation and entry fees through his fundraiser.
Reno is the new home of the World Long Drive Championship, with Wildcreek Golf Course hosting the event through to 2028. The city sits at a similar elevation to last year’s championship venue in Colorado, where the winning drive went a record 471 yards.
Golf Channel will broadcast the 2026 World Long Drive Championship on 1 December 2026. Full results are available on the World Long Drive website.
